Long Service Award – Sean Colton

Sean is the second of our foundry men celebrating 15 years at Timsons this month. Arguably the tallest member of the foundry team, Sean works the furnace; the first part of the casting process. When we spoke to Sean he recalled fondly and with amusement when he first applied to TEL and how he came to be offered a job he hadn’t applied for.

We asked Sean a few questions about his time with TEL, and this is what he had to say:

Why did you first join Timsons?
“Worked at another company for four and half years, but became bored with it. I saw an advert for a fettling job which looked exciting, so I applied. Unfortunately I was turned down for that job because I was too tall [laughs]. A few days later they [Timsons] called and asked me if I’d be interested in working the furnace. I said yes, and that’s what I’ve been doing ever since.”

What’s the best thing about working for Timsons?
“The job itself is hugely enjoyable; I’ve always had fun with it. The people, of course – eight hours would feel awfully long if you didn’t like the people you worked with, I feel lucky in that respect.”

Why do you think you’ve committed 40 years to TEL?
“It’s very close to home, which is obviously convenient. Besides that, I really enjoy what I do; I find it really interesting. In honesty, there’s never really been a reason to leave.”
